Essex County Council is committed to ensuring the best possible quality of life for its residents. In August 2009, we published the Essex Economic Recovery Action Plan: Positioning Essex beyond the recession.
In it we detailed thirty-seven schemes, measures and interventions designed to respond to the downturn and ensure that Essex would be well-placed to thrive when the economy recovered. It clearly addressed potential problems facing local businesses and focused particularly on funding, promoting Essex as a business destination, contracting with the public sector and signposting business support services. This was teamed with a suite of support for residents, including providing financial assistance, offering employment opportunities, strengthening communities, bolstering education and skills and ensuring value for money.
"Essex has not been immune to the effects of the recession. However, we were quick to act and
Essex County Council and its partners have won plaudits nationally for their response to the
recession. More importantly, our response has helped local residents and businesses weather
the economic storm"
Cllr Peter Martin
Leader, Essex County Council
